Comment and colour
‘Clifton Park has everything from a mini-golf course to a museum. I didn’t spend much time at the water splash, the skate park or the play area; I didn’t ride the Clifton Express land train; but the museum and café in the grand old Palladian mansion at the southern corner of the park passed the time very agreeably until kick-off.
‘Clifton House has been the home of Rotherham Museum since 1893, so they’ve had plenty of time to work out how to present themselves. Like the rest of the park, it’s designed to appeal to families. Those exhibits you might expect to be slightly dusty – the history of Rotherham, the story of the York & Lancaster Regiment – turn out to be beautifully done, either through the stunning quality of the pieces (especially some of the Rockingham pottery) or through interactive gizmos.’
